Production of Annular Sidestream Flow Units and Assemblies to Monitor Biofouling, Corrosion and Scale in Water Systems and to Test Biocides, Corrosion Inhibitors, Scale Inhibitors and Demulsifiers in the Field and the Laboratory
INTRODUCTION
Surfaces exposed to water systems, heat exchange as well as to reinjection waters are submitted to a series of detrimental phenomena:
- Electrochemical Corrosion - Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion - Biofouling - Heat Exchange Fouling - Scale - Microbial Reservoir Souring
Such detrimental phenomena are closely intercorralated as presented in following diagramme:
Basically, it results in leaking due to internal corrosion and plugging due to scale and biofouling of lines and formation, if such fluids are reinjected, as it is the case in the oil industry.
In order to study and monitor such phenomena, specimens of similar material must be exposed in the system. They can be installed inside-the-line with retractable fittings, flush mounted or in-side-lines as sidestreams or bypasses reinjecting the fluids into the system.
Both types of exposure are not contradictory, they are complementary. The inside-the-line specimens measure conventionally. The flow units and assemblies herewith presented multiply the testing capacity allowing statistical, kinetical measurements as well as large capacity chemical testing.
The variety of arrays, probes and sensors can be slid into the annular upflow chambers of the flow units.
Such arrays are interexchangeable and can be used in the laboratory and in the field. The combination of flow units into flow unit assemblies opens the door to simultaneous testing, monitoring and screening, as well as to multifunctional products that perform basically three functions:
» THE DIAGNOSIS AND SURVEY PROGRAM
(SERIES 100, 200, 300 and 400):
Aims to determine the specific problem on-spot.
» THE MONITORING RANGE
(SERIES 500 and 600):
Follows up the situation in the field and allows to make continuous records.
» THE FIELD AND LABORATORY SCREENING INSTRUMENTATION
(SERIES 700, 800, 1000):
Looks after chemical treatment solutions and selection of materials exhibiting best performance against above mentioned detrimental phenomena.
